Gebrüder Weiss looks back on 2 years of dedicated business activities in the US
In August of 2003 Gebrüder Weiss dared to take the step across the Atlantic and founded Weiss-Röhling USA LLC together with its joint venture partner Röhling of Bremen. GW Air & Sea Board of Directors representative Heinz Senger-Weiss now formulates a first, very positive summary of this transatlantic leap: In the first half of 2005 the gross profit increased by 38 percent, with presently 48 employees the staff more than doubled within the past 12 months. The branch network is continuously being expanded: In July the first office was opened in Canada in Toronto, in September a subsidiary took up operation in Atlanta, and at the end of the year the Vorarlberg logistics group is also supposed to be represented in San Francisco.
Not only traffic with Europe developed at a first-class level, but also the transpacific lines with the Weiss-Röhling network in Asia. ’50% growth in 3 years, this was the goal we started with here’, declared Robert Pelsky, Head of Weiss-Röhlig USA. However, he had to subject this target value to a decisive increase revision after these two magnificent years. The direct consequence of this very favorable business development is also the further expansion of branch networks with the new locations in Toronto, Atlanta and San Francisco.Heinz Senger-Weiss is particularly pleased about this development: ’The Weiss-Röhlig joint venture now includes 25 locations in 6 countries, in the joint network of GW and Röhlig we are represented at 180 locations around the globe. And despite this considerable dimension we still manage to provide very individual and flexible service to our customers. We tailor quasi logistic custom-made suits with the efficiency and quality of a global system.’
Global Service, global Team
The America Team of the German-Austrian joint venture presents itself at a very international level. For the 48 employees do not only come from the USA, Germany or Austria. The people working for Weiss-Röhlig USA come from 12 different nations, among them are e.g. Guatemala, Poland and the Philippines. Senger-Weiss emphasizes: ‘The Austrians are also becoming increasingly mobile!’ More and more are willing to become engaged internationally! And our doors are wide open to good logistics operators with a travel bug.’

In total the Gebrüder Weiss Group with its headquarters in Lauterach in Vorarlberg employs some 3,500 employees at 118 locations worldwide. In the past business year the Austrian logistics company earned sales of 708 million euros.
